Frequently Asked Questions
Coaching is an iterative, targeted, interactive process designed to facilitate concrete changes in performance—and bottom-line results. At LevelUp Coaching, I help clients achieve their goals through powerful conversations that are intended to inspire new thinking, perceptions and behavior that actualize your potential, improve your performance, create focus and directional clarity, support the achievement of your personal and professional goals, and enhance the quality of your life.
Before we talk about my approach to coaching, I would like to talk about how I approach you, the client. I believe that you are the expert in your life. I believe that you are whole, not broken. I believe that you are resourceful and capable of far more than you imagine. I believe in your capacity to grow, change, reach your goals.
My approach to coaching is an emergent, iterative, holistic process designed to elicit powerful conversations. These conversations are intended to inspire new thinking, perceptions and behavior to improve performance, create directional clarity, achieve personal and professional goals, and enhance the quality of your life.
I meet with clients typically once a month but it completely depends on you and your goals. Meeting once a month offers time for reflection and application of learning between sessions, while maintaining the momentum of our work together.
The differences between coaching and psychotherapy are:
- Coaches focus on the future. Therapists focus on the past.
- Coaches center their work around the belief that clients are healthy. Therapists utilize a framework that is based on pathology and illness.
- Coaches work with the conscious mind. Therapists work with the unconscious mind.
- Coaches’ work is often time-limited with specific desired behavioral outcomes. Therapists’ work is open-ended with “understanding” as the primary objective.
- Coaches work in person, as well as over the phone. Therapists usually work in person only.
There are similarities between coaching and psychotherapy as well. They are:
- Both are concerned with making concrete changes in your emotional state and life.
- Both work to understand the self-limiting beliefs or behavior caused by thoughts and emotions that you may or may not be aware of.
- Both practices help you grow, change and move toward becoming your best self.
As a personal coach I have received training in both coaching and psychology. I hold a Master’s Degree in Divinity and been trained by the International Coaching Federation and am a Certified Clergy Coach in the Michigan Conference. Having that broad, deep training and perspective allows me to help you understand and master your habits, thoughts and feelings that hold you back from achieving your most important goals.
If you sign-up for personal coaching I will reach out to you to schedule your first (FREE) session to make sure you and I are a good match for one another. If we mutually agree after that first session additional sessions will be scheduled. Each session runs approximately 45-55 minutes depending on the goals and flow of the session. We encourage a minimum of three sessions if you have never done individual coaching before to give you a feel for how the process works. You can pay for as few as one session or get discounts on purchasing a set of sessions together.
If you are looking for Leadership Development either as an individual or as a team/organization and you have signed up as a member then you will be sent a key that gives you access to the annual training sessions. The training sessions are video based and designed to be used with a team/group of people on a monthly basis to help you and your team develop essential skills to be successful as a leader of a team or organization. Your membership will renew annually at the beginning of each calendar year. You may cancel your membership at any time and you will not automatically renew, but you will continue to have access to the video materials through the calendar year.
As a trained organizational coach/consultant I help your team or organization focus on group goals rather than individual goals. Team or organizational coaching also differs in content and style. It is more content-rich and directive (task centered) while individual coaching is non-directive and driven completely but the individual client.
Although different in style both focus on identifying and reaching definitive goals. If you are interested in Organizational Consulting fill out our contact form and we can discuss your unique needs and fee structure at that time.
